Reference and Structure of Software Engineering Theories

چکیده

This paper tries to contribute towards the solution of an important question raised in [4]: What is a Software Engineering (SE) specific theory? Which are the main features of a theory that is endemic to SE? In this paper we will use “theory” as the term is used in traditional sciences. Other uses of the term “theory” are discussed. Finally, we propose to focus on the reference class and on the structuring of SE theories as a basis for further progress.

On the Structure of General Theories of Software Engineering

Taming complexity is a fundamental goal of software engineering. The core techniques that have been successful in practice are those that separate concerns, especially variants of architectural abstractions called components and connectors. We argue that General Theories of Software Engineering (GTSE) should be organized by components and connectors to distinguish conceptually distinct elements...

Error Recovery by the Use of Sensory Feedback and Reference Measurements for Robotic Assembly

Industrial robots need instrument or parts transport to do which requires coordinate to show the robot’s instrument, parts and body. When investigating the robot location, we are usually interested in measuring its location relative to a reference coordinate system. In this system it is attempted to make the assemble direction smaller by designing the sensor board and making use of an instrumen...

Theory Relationships in D and E

My general theory of software engineering is that there are two logical parts: design and evaluation. In my theories D and E (Design and Evaluation) there are references to a theory T in each of them. The interesting question is “what is the relationship between these two theories D.T and E.T. I first delineate a rich variety of theories related to D.T, D.M, and E.T and consider these to be sub...

Analysis of wheel and rail Hertzian and Non-Hertzian contact theories using UM software considering the effect of rail inclination on wheel wear

Wheel-rail interaction has always been one of the issues in the railway industry. In this paper, the effect of Hertzian and non-Hertzian contact theories on the wheel wear due to the rail inclination was investigated. by using the UM software. According to the results, longer contact areas are obtained in non- Hertzian contact theory compared to Hertzian contact theory. In non-Hertzian contact...

Human factors in software development: On its underlying theories and the value of learning from related disciplines. A guest editorial introduction to the special issue

Human factors play a very important role in Software Development [1]. According to Avison et al. [2] ‘‘Failure to include human factors may explain some of the dissatisfaction with conventional information systems development methodologies; they do not address real organizations’’ (p95 [2]). Software development has been characterized in essence as a human activity [3] where human factors play ...
